Exactly the same thought I had.

That'd be funny if the DFG congratulated him for his rare catch then gave him a ticket for admitting he had no idea what it was.

From the story on spearboard, the guy is a seasoned diver. I'd be surprised if he didn't know, with sufficient confidence, what he was taking. As far as the article goes, I'm sure its semantics, could have just as easily said it came in for "verification."  Kinda hard to believe he blindly took it.

I thought it was strange he shot it at first, but then I figured same as art, the guy probably knew what it was before he shot it.  Did he know the regulations regarding shooting it though, I don't know.

He knew.  Any claim to not knowing was probably some attempt at creating a greater mystique.

You should have seen the pics he took slapping me in the face with his eel. I still have nightmares.

 

I can't tell if he was humble or bragging, but when fuzz told me about shooting the monkeyface he said he only shot it to give it to you (jim), and didn't realize he had something big.

Back on point, it's a lot easier to ID the few fish we can't shoot, or have size restrictions. If it's not one of those, game on!
