Looking for some feedback on how youse all bag your keepers.  Bag in the tankwell? Cooler? Mesh bag off the side of the yak?

Thanks!

At the opener I just used the tankwell this year. In other years I have used a laundry bag from the $1 store.

I discovered mesh-type bags aren't so good.  The buggers latch on and it's very hard to get them to let go when you try to remove them.  And when they do, they latch right back down on another chunk of mesh.  I'm hoping to use a burlap sack and see how that works.

I use mesh dive bag. Seen veteran crabbers use cooler. They'll crawl around. Tankwell may not hold them.

I use a burlap sack, it works well but can be a bit tricky when solo to keep the opening accessible while sorting out the keepers. I'v herd of guys using cheap canvas duffel bags with plastic zippers because they can stay open on there own and make transporting easy and secure.

Only used burlap sack...its basic, cheap and does the trick.  It's breathable and keeps em cool if you keep the bag wet. I keep em stored behind the seat in the tank well.  But haven't done much crabbing this year...cuz somebody stole all my gear!!

I use a mesh dive bag.  Every so often, I'll dunk or soak the crabs for a few minutes. I then keep them in my tank well with a wet cloth over them to keep them cool, wet, and outta the sun.  I'll keep the cloth wet and splash water over them every so often as well if I remember to.

Getting them outta the bag can be a pain in the butt... but tossing them in a cooler with ice settles them all down.

Now that I have some burlap, I'm going to experiment with it either to line my mesh bag or just to cover the crabs

This is an awesome all purpose bag for crabs, lobster, fish, mussels, urchin, abalone you name it. Extreme durable and has a spring loaded handle so it opens wide and closes with just one hand. I've had mine for over 10 years.

The bottom portion is a fine mesh and the upper material is smooth.
I keep it thethered to my yak and in the water to keep the crabs/game nice and fresh.

They come out as easy as they go in too because of the smooth upper material. Well worth the money and fits a limit of dungies no problem.
Excellent dive bag too.

I keep using an old burlap sack, waiting for it to rot out, so I can buy a bag like this.  Antonio has a much easier time bagging crab than I do.

Burlap bag between my feet. It works well except when the bag is so full there is no room left for me!

Fantastic input everybody, thanks!

Think I'll go with the burlap this year due to cheapness/ seems to be effective, and maybe go a little higher tech later if I feel the need.  I typically keep a few for gardening around that I get from the home coffee roasting place I buy beans from in Oakland.

I just toss the into a milk grate behind my seat.  I have never had any climb out and they're always alive when I get in.
