I have a Sawyer Sea Feather (KSCS) paddle http://www.paddlesandoars.com/frame_paddles.html (actually I have two). One of them was delaminating at the leading edge of both blades.  Basically the fibergalss was separating from the wood inside.  I suspect the cause was a combination of wear and tear, rough use, age and maybe leaving it out in the weather a few times.  Anyway, these beautiful wood paddels retail for about $160.  I have had these two paddles for at least 10 years and they were used from a rental fleet when I got them.  I am still using one while the other is in for repairs.  I sent the paddle in on Monday and they called today with a repair estimate of $40.

I am very happy with this deal vs. buying a new one.  These paddles are light and strong and they float and have served me well over the years.  The service people at Sawyer were very friendly and helpful and I recommend these paddles and the company in general for anyone in need.  I have had a few NCKA members comment on my "old school" paddles but I believe that they are superior for the reasons above plus they are repairable at a reasonable price.  As they are wood, they can be repaird using commonly available materials i a pinch or emergency.  Sawyer reports that my paddle will be returned in new condition in about 4 weeks.

While this is not the super beyond expectation customer service that has been reported for some companies in other threads, Sawyer is a stand up company.  Their staff is friendy and helpful and they offer a fair deal that I recommend. :smt006
