Hope everyone is well. My 11 year old and myself are heading down to Monterey tomorrow AM. Plan is to dive and meet up for the Triton Weigh in at the Black Bear diner. One of the best hunters there, Alex Reynaud is going to do a seminar on band tieing as well.

My boy and I are still rooks, so we will be working the shallows in PG. Anyone want to meet up, hit me up.

Thanks Jim. One day, I would love to hook up with you and dive together if you ever don't mind a few rooks. My kid even has his own Biller 42 and connected with that ling last year, so we just need more time in the water ;-)

I think it's funny that all of the 'Monterey Bay Tritons' are from the central valley...  :smt005

fishing folsom, how did your dive go?

Thanks for asking Chaeki!

Short report:  Left Folsom at 5am, was at Otter by 8am, and unpacking. Not bad timing. Met up with Dan (skunkasaurus from our board), and his dive friend Ken.  Tide was just starting to come back in and it had not been much of a low, so the water was up high and there was a few waves. We all got out, but the viz in shallow (10-15 feet) was not good. Started heading out deeper and my 11 year old son started feeling nauseous, so we just headed in. Viz where we were was maybe 7 to maybe 10. A few Tritons I know worked the middle kelp bed around 25, and the viz got much better there. Dan and his buddy were in the water for like 4 hours, so they had a good time. There were not many fish to be seen, so my theory that the reduced fishing pressure would improve our odds went out. Another group of better free divers went over to left of the point on yaks and did pretty well coming out with a legal Ling, a few Cabbies, a Prickleback, and several perch.

The Triton event was very cool. Alex Reynaud and Robert Watson did a nice demo on tying your own bands and had a hands on for anyone that wanted to do it, with all the supplies. My boy got to make his own band for his biller, so he was stoked. All in all, a gorgeous day and nice friends to be with, so can't say it was a failure. Very nice actually.

I went out with my 7yr old and my sister.  My sister did well for a first time dive.. my son kinda outgrown his wetsuit, so he was much colder than usual.  Waiting for his new wetsuit and heat packs.  Here is a very short clip of that day.

Way cool video Chaeki! Thanks for sharing. Guessing SWS. Your sister did well. That was a nice first dive and the viz looked top to bottom where you were at. The shots of you (I presume) later on are rocking! That was a nice deep dive and a great fish!
Thanks for sharing the video. We just got a go-pro so need to get some footage!  Ever want to dive with a rook and his boy, hit me up! We get to Carmel/Monterey about 1x a month.

Hey Quinn,
It was a pleasure meeting you and your son in Monterey on Saturday!
Thanks for getting me back on this forum.  Talking to you prompted me to start looking at putting a fish finder on my Scupper Pro, so I'm pestering folks on here for info!
Ron.
