Clearly you've never been to the Monterey Regional Airport (MRY). I will never fly outta SJC, OAK or SFO again!
I can honestly say I've never flown from Monterey before.  They have added some new airlines recently too along with better destinations.  I'd like to gather up a flight to Vegas from there in the near future.

I used to fly Southwest from OAK to Burbank and Ontario 30 or 40 times a year.   I never arrived more than 1/2 hour before my flight and the time spent making the trip beat the He'll out of driving in peak traffic.  The total time including the 1/2 hour early arrival was far less than the 3 hour proposed train ride.

There isn't a large scale ground based mass transit system in the world that is wholly self-sufficient- they're all subsidized.

That said, pretty f'ing stupid where this first segment runs. Nowhere to nowhere (more or less).

It'll be right up here with a bridge in Alaska.

That's exactly what Sara and I did two years ago! Flew out of MRY to Vegas, which was like night and day difference to SJC/OAK/SFO. It was so much more laid back I couldn't believe it. However we had a "fun" landing with 30-40mph crosswinds on the return that made us scrub one of the landings.  :smt009  But Pats right, it's way laid back there  :smt004

Flown out of Monterey a few times this year.  The Alaska flight to San Diego is sweet.   Biggest issue is landing on the later returning flights.  The fog plays a big role.

I like trains.

Saw the governor last night on the news say"don't worry about how we are gonna pay for it"

For a state that's broke we seem to not have any problems spending billions
Where did he go george

Sounds like we need a group trip from Monterey to Vegas!

I look at this as a political boondogle of epic proportions.  This can not, will not, come in under budget, on time.  How many years has BART been in the bay area and they still can't complete a circle around the bay.  Waste

The projected fares from SanFrancisco to L.A. are comparable to the cost of a Southwest flight.  Why would anybody choose to spend 3 hours on a train vs flying?
This is exactly what I want to know how much the fair will be. Plus the added cost of transportation, when you get to your city of choice. Where I live now it is 3 hours to L.A. and almost the same to S.F. And then your at the mercy of another driver and their schedule. Speaking of Schedules how many trains are going to be on that track. Two? so every 3 hours a train will leave, VS flying with several airlines. I'm happy I did not vote for any of these Idiots. This is a deal for big bucks to go to somebody's buddy.
