Here is a pretty good article on the different breaking systems on casting reels.
I have been casting for a long time and usually run with little or no control, most of my reels are centrifugal which are OK except having to take the reel apart to adjust the blocks.
Don't really like the mag reels and have even taken out the components to lighten up the reel. I have 2 reels that have the IVCB and really like them especially for lighter weights and distance casting. I had a DC reel but returned it finding that I got more distance with the IVCB. I have one IVCB with 4 blocks and 1 with 2, I like the 4 better and will be upgrading that reel to 4. Haven't tried the auto mag.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I like them all.it all depends on what applications its for.I like using the magnetic brake systems because of the ease of access feom the outside.I also like the old tried and true older shimano vbs system. It all depends on the actual brand and reel.like the daiwa mag force v system doesn't cast as well as the mag force z.but on the older steez reels it cast fine even tho the older steez reels use the v system. And on the dc (digital control) system its not really about distance its about the ease of casting. I know I use to have 6 calais and 2 calcutta dc.its about just a light flick of the wrist and not having to swing the rod to get the same distance. Only downside about the dc reels is once you have it on hand you tend to not want to pick up the other rods while fishing
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
