Man, I used to surf that spot a lot when I was a student at Cal Poly.  It's funny.  I never worried about sharks there.  There were other spots where I was more sketched out about sharks, but 'hazards' and 'cables' always seemed shark-free.   

I guess times change.   The funny thing is that when I moved back up to the Bay, I never surfed up here because I was worried about the sharks.
