They recommend the following:

HERO4 Black & Silver

A Class 10 MicroSD card up to 64 GB is required.

Not all Class 10 microSD cards have the same data write speeds. Due to the higher bit rate capabilities and to support new features of HERO4 camera, we have provided a list of recommended cards that provide the best experience

SanDisk Extreme 32GB microSDHC (SDSDQXL-032G)
SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC (SDSDQXL-064G)
Lexar 32GB SDHC 633x (LSDMI32GBBNL633R)
Lexar 64GB SDXC 633x (LSDMI64GBBNL633R)

As for resolution the highest is the best.  Someone can always play lower res if they need to but if someone wants to watch on TV or HD play back it works best if original is high quality.

After you figure out what will be best for you then buy the micro sd card that will match the battery run time and quality of video you want otherwise you will overspend. But you will be able to have multiple days on one SD card.  I have a 32 GB card and have never come close to filling it up in one day but I stop video between shots so you may need more.

Look at highest resolution and see how many GB that uses for the time frame the battery is good.  That minimum would be a starting point. If you plan on bringing spare batteries then you may want more space.

The one best buy recommends is comparable to the extreme GoPro recommends.  That will work.

I would suggest going with a 32 Gb.  Typically your battery will die before you run out of storage.  I would rather have two 32 Gb than one 64 Gb, but that's me.

+1

I use 3 32gb cards, a good pelican case that will fit camera, battery charger and housing. Makes for easy, worry free  travel. I also got lens covers for the housing AND camera to always keep clean and scratch free.

Before diving, experiment with taking video at various settings to see how long your battery lasts. I have read of heating issues  in the camera at the higher settings that shorten the the battery charge.

As for flash card, get the one with the higher write speed. The faster the video is written to the card, the sooner the camera can devote most of its effort to reading (videotaping) more with less stress.
