In know there's plenty of 7 year olds that would kick my ass at this game.

+1

IMO, any junior/youth division is better than none.

We have no clue how many or what age kids may sign up.

Keeping it simple and straightforward.

And yeah....I have seen 7 year olds that fish way better than some 17 year olds and adults.

Some kids have grown up with a fishing pole in their hands and some are just getting exposed to it in high school by a relative or friend.

IMO, it's not about age...it's about getting younger kids out fishing or diving and having fun.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing how it goes, and I know Valentina is excited about it!

Sincerely,

Jim

This might sound like a bs fish story, but my parents tied a snoopy pole to the boat (in case I dropped it) when I was 18 months old and put the pole in my hands. Next thing you know they turned around cuz they heard me grunting with a 12" crappie on the end of my line. Still have a mount of my first fish to this day. A kid is never too young to take fishing and that kid might just outfish all the adults. At 7 years old I would have been pumped to take on some high school kids!

You are probably right. You have to at least fish from the kayak.

I got it Jim. Thanks. I was asking for someone else.  We will learn as the year goes on. Thanks AOTY committee.

I think that may sum it up a little better  :smt003

My resolution for 2015 is to increase my kayak and boat trips by 100% each.....the goal is 2 yak trips and 4 boating.  I'm not sure its doable  :smt003

The juior division may not know it but I'm gonna secretly compete with them and keep score myself.  Stay tuned for the inevitable concession speech in New Year's day 2016!

I'm super excited for Valentina to start! Not that I don't love diving with BigJim but there is gonna be enough pressure in the top 10 this year as it is  :smt002 When Valentina is killing it and the game is close.....I know BigJim will be on some river or lake somewhere getting god knows what kind of freshwater fish for Valentina instead of kicking my a$$ in DOTY :smt005

I have a strange feeling I might be entering my first DOTY this year so Skylar can be entered into JDOTY. We haven't talked about it yet but I'm sure she's thinking about it.

Love my Princess.

Is there a cost for JDOTY? Does he have to be on his own yak? Specific youth rules? He's 4 and I'd love to have him participate but he sometimes needs help landing, casting, etc. So having to duct tape the rod to his hand seems cruel.

Mike,

There will not be a lot of scrutiny put on the JAOTY fish and we know the younger kids will receive a lot of support from their parents. we want this to be a fun and rewarding experience for all the kids.

x100.

The whole idea is for the kids to get out and have fun, and for a lot of younger kids that means fishing/diving/quality time with parents=win, win.

 :smt001

Valentina is pretty high maintenance so far and my goal is to get her to be more self sufficient in terms of whole fishing process...but that will take time and I don;t plan on rushing it cuz I don't wanna scare her away from fishing...

And we are always on tandem or doubled up on a single as well. I got her a kids paddle now but she is still not ready to be solo on a yak just yet...

So, get out with your little guy, have fun, make some memories, catch some fish and take some pics and enter them so he can see how he improves over the year and across years!!

 :smt001

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

ps...just let me know what his username is when you create the JAOTY account and I will activate it and his name will show up on the Youth Leader Board!
