I'm setting up a new rack system to use on the fiberglass shell of my truck.  I've used the Yakima Landing Pads for 10 years without any problems on my old truck shell.

I was looking at the Track base mount for flexibility on the new system.  Anybody have experience with the tracks?  quality, security, how they function, durability over time?  Any feedback appreciated.

I love the tracks, have them on the roof of the mazda, roof of the truck, bedrails on the truck and roof of the pop-up camper.  Have been on Mazda since 2004 and still going strong, though the anodizing does fade over time.  Will hold nearly anything very securely to the vehicle, even bikes'vs carports...

Doh!

I have never tried them, but they look super clean on Jim's ride.

I have the tracks on top of my camper. Can't say anything bad about them. I bought the kit (tracks, mounts, and bars) for $300ish at ORS direct with free shipping. I forgot if I paid tax or not.

Got the exact same tracks on my fiberglass shell; works great and STRONG too!  I actually drove my wife's mountian bike into BARTs parking garage and they barely even bent; busted a tower though, but better than f-ing up the bike.

Tower feet are great too; got them from Ariel for replacement of my busted ones.... easy to remove from the vehicle when you really dont want the crossbar/tower on the roof....

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.  Sounds like the tracks are solid.

As Glen mentioned, it is really fast to pop the towers and bars on the truck using the landing pads.  Is it fairly quick and easy to pop the towers and bars off/on with the track sytem?

If you have the locks, unlock and then pull it down; the uprright and bars come off together! Super quick!!!!

Only the landing pads stay connectedto the track.

How is the install and are there any leakage issues? I was thinking of replacing my factory bars.

"The tracks" must be installed by drilling thru your roof; though it can be done on through the sheet metal of the car roof, do STRONGLY do not recommend you do this. Way to much of a pain to properly apply sealers and/or sealant; which includes removing your headliner.

if you have factory tracks, all you might need is the yakima launch pads and the proper 'rail nuts' (which might be included in the kit)...

Make sure you read the instructions, talking from experience here. Each tracks has 10 holes I believe and right off the bat, I drilled all 10 holes on each side. Then I noticed there were only 16 nuts/bolts in the bag. I later found out (from reading the manual as a last resort) I was supposed to miss a few spots in the middle part. Oh well, a trip to Home Depot solved it.

Thanks. It looks like  a great product, but the installation sounds like too much of a hassle at this time.
