I just did a fishing trip to Andrew Molera (Pt Sur). I put together some tips and post them here for your future outings.

•   Unloading area is 1/4 north off Andrew Molera park entrance. You could not drive in, but you could unload kayak and fishing gear, set up for haul.
•   1-mile long walk to Molera beach. Although it is long, the road is packed dirt, wide and easy to walk with kayak wheels. It takes about 15 minutes from the gate to the beach.
•   Campsite is 1/3 mile into the park along the trail. It is a big grass field on your right when walking towards Molera beach.
•   Launch should be fine from the northern part of the cove if swell is NW. Otherwise, I would avoid that place. With southern swells, shore breakers could get worse.
•   Fishing is excellent. This is one of fishing paradise. I believe there is a good quality of fish living there. Recommend getting them if you adventure out.
•   Avoid windy days. The wind makes tricky to fish in this area, especially where kelp beds are everywhere. If wind comes up, I would tie kayak with kelp strings. In this way, you could have still fishing and avoid snags
•   Views from the water are magnificent in a sunny day – crescent shorelines, sandy beaches, Pt Sur station and rocks, and big sur mountain ridges.
•   After paddling out the cove and turning right, you should see a big field of kelp beds. Actually, kelp was everywhere between Pt Sur and Molera beach. Beneath was a huge area of reefs. fishing is excellent between kelp beds and on reefs at 50ft and 80ft.

Enjoy ...

Is it difficult dragging a yak back to the car after a long day fishing? I`m deliberating about heading there very soon and want to be prepared of what to bring.

Coming back after long day fishing is more difficult for sure. Last time I did that. It was not too bad. The trail is mainly flat and wide. One section has a slope, but is short. Two people can easily push kayaks up to the road (Highway 1).

A good kayak cart will help.
