I started the installation of my new FF today and using the info from this forum I am pleased with my results. I used the quick connect cable from a battery tender as the cable to the power source. It uses the same fuse as the one that came with the FF so I figured I would save a step and it worked perfectly. Installed FF Plugged it in and presto it powered up. Now all I need to do is mount the transducer. This is the part I am alittle worried about .Here are pics of what I have so far   Thanks for the input from everyone , David

Yeah the thru-hull is a proven winner.  See MarcelM's thread in this same Gearing Up and Rigging Up area, he did a nice clean install that should work perfect.

I think we need to use the correct terminology and specify it as a 'shoot thru the hull' which uses a standard transom mount transducer and shoots thru the hull (by mounting inside the kayak hull.  There are true 'thru hull' transducers but they require a hole to be cut thru the bottom of the kayak randing in diameter from about 1" to about 2-1/2" depending on the brand/model of the transducer.  those transducers are also, generally, fairly thick & bulky.  I'm not sure that I have ever, myself, seen anyone use a true 'thru hull' transducer in a kayak application.  Well ... H-Bird uses a 'thru hull' transducer that mounts thru a scupper on specific model(s) of Ocean Kayaks I believe so I do stand corrected on a technicality.   :smt002

Looks clean David. :smt006 I still have my transducer in the water bath method. Basically, a cut out foam with a lip that holds the transducer in place. I put water in first each time I place the transducer in then at the end of the day, I know to expect a little water inside the yak from it. It has been working for me since 2008 in my Hobie Revolution. On my Ocean Kayak T13, I have the right size transducer that goes in one of the scupper hole. I like this best because the water temp is accurate. For my brand new Tarpon 140, it will be a water bath thing again since it works well for me. Good luck brother.
