Is it worth having a 5 year old TV repaired? Apparently, Samsung TVs were fitted with capacitors not powerful enough to handle the voltage. Samsung offered free repair until Feb of this year.  :smt010 I'm missing my 149th viewing of Miracle on 34th Street.  :smt002

Depend on who's paying for the shipping?

No way I'm shipping a 50 in. TV that weights 80 pounds but feels heavier.  :smt044

I can help you lifting it but do you still have the "original" box for it?

Howard call Walt's  394-1534 I had one fixed and it was only an hours labor and a couple of dollars in parts at the local shop up here they will appreciate the business
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

With the plummeting price of TV's nowadays, no reason not to upgrade.

Howard, let me know if you are going to be in the market, and I'll point you to a good deal. They are practically giving them away this season.

I had a Phillips with samsung parts that had the same issue.  Blinking red light, tv wouldn't power up...

Looked it up on the web, and sure enough, I had the bad capacitors (it was really easy to tell).  Went to the local electronics shop and for two $3.45 capacitors (I went for the recommended one step up on voltage), and a $4 spool of solder wick wire I was ready to go for it.

Did the repair in about 30 minutes and it has worked fine since.

Its a pretty easy repair to do yourself and there are some instructional videos out there if you need help.

Thanks, Mike. I don't have the strength to wrangle that thing into truck.

I'm not one for doing self repairs. I'm good at destroying things, not repairing them.  :smt001

I actually just called Samsung for a friend and they did the repair for free even though the time period had past. Just be very persistent and escalate it as far as you have to.

Good luck with the new TV Hojo. There are so many good ones out there now that I'm sure whichever one you select will last you a while.
