fished 40 to 70 feet caught two at twelve inches, thats not going to cut it.
with the mack bite slow and the wind picking up we decided to top line rapalas in 10 feet of water. and Bam its gotta be a brown and a good one, nope a 5 pound mack in the flats in 8 feet of water.

Nice fish, looks like you're on to something there. Never been there looks pretty high altitude, still no snow ? WTG fishing with your kid.

A mackinaw toplining in 8 feet?  Awesome!!  I wonder if he was cruising in the shallows for spawning?

what made this interesting  . i have caught a few macks in the shallows in winter but always deep water was near by.
in winter i start at15 feet and move out from there. where this one was caught was a looong way from deep water.
if memory serves me right macks dont spawn on beds mama just cruses squriting her eggs on the rocks.

Was this upper or lower BRR?  I hunted Onion Valley there a month or so ago and took some time to shore fish lower BRR.  No takers but did see fish rolling out further.  I will definitely be back this summer to fish/pre-hunt, scout that area
