Hello to the board. I'm Vincent.

Back in high school if you ever wanted to find me I'd be down at the 9th st pier in Benicia. If not there, I'd be at the end of 1st st with a line in the water.
Before that I learned to surf fish at Baker beach and trout fish at lake Merced.
I guess the first time I saw my brother Clean a fish was when I realized fishing was for me. I was in the fourth grade. What fourth grader wouldn't think fish eyes are cool and opening a fishes stomach is even cooler?
That was many years ago and I haven't spent much time fishing since my Benicia days.

Thanks to Craigslist I found a cool cat this week named Matt who set me up with an old Gliebe 300 rod (9'6") and Mitchell spinner.

I've been reading up on fishing on the Sonoma coast and have big dreams of kayak fishing ( sorry i missed Mooch. His videos and your reponse to his passing tell me i missed someone special.) salmon, striper, perch, cod. Heck, whatever i can get my hands on that I can fry in the pan.

Tackle questions...
What's a good and not too expensive line to spool onto my Mitchell?
What about leader line?
I'm thinking a Crolina rig as a standard set up?
Will I need a shorter salt water rod at some point for jetty, pier, cove, etc fishing? If so, what's a decent rod for all purpose non surf fishing?

Location
Is Duran beach any good? I've read the breaker wall at spud point is good for perch.
Any suggestions for the bodega bay area would be appreciated. I don't expect to be handed the "killer holes" on a silver platter but I'd really like to avoid the "what the hell is that dummy doing out there" scenario.

Thanks all. I'm looking forward to learning here. And fishing. And eating fish. And who knows, maybe even a little water therapy.

Vinman

:smt006 Welcome vinman! Feeling your stoke. Ft. Ross and north will be a different deal than Doran, many more fish. Doran is primarily a crabbing destination. A lifevest, wetsuit, and marine VHF radio are essential for your safety. Buy, borrow, or rent these things. You will find the membership here a good resource. You down for a cup of coffee in Duncan's Mills some day?-Amos (use the PM function and let me know, it will be good practice) be seeing you, Amos
