James, from my sister Shelly...

So sorry to hear. That sucks! I hate cancer.. Yes anything I can do they can ask. I always have sent this email to a couple friends here in town & its helpful info so maybe u might want to passes it along.

There's more help out there for you! I know that the American Cancer Society has at least one volunteer driver in Patterson, maybe more. You can get help through the American Cancer Society website at www.cancer.org . Also, you should call 1-800-227-2345 and actually talk to someone which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I recommend that you write down all your questions you might have and the support you might be looking for before you call so you don't forget when they are talking to you. You need to ask for "road to recovery" which is how you can get rides to treatment or I believe even cash reimbursement for gas to & from appointments for you or friends that can help with drive to & from treatments. Many people donate money for families so don't wait too long to look into this help! ACS likes a seven day notice when they need a ride to set up transportation but in a pinch may be able to set it up on short notice. You should also ask for a "Personal Health Manager" which is a binder to help you keep track of medical appointments and prescription meds. Also, you should ask about support groups for the patient & even her spouse and especially support groups for her kids old or small to help with there emotional journey & they can also help advise ways on telling Grandkids etc but the closest groups are in Turlock or Modesto but there are some great online groups. I think a online group is extremely helpful especially for the children to hear stories from other adult/young children going through similar things as you. Also you should ask for specific cancer information and information regarding chemo and how to mange the side effects. The sooner you call the better to get in the ACS system.
Take care & hopefully this isn't too much I just want to help because I know it was hard for us when we went through it with my dad & me.

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Yes, cancer sucks and I sure hope that someday they will find a cure.  I and I know others here have friends and families that have survived or currently fighting cancer.  I hope your sister fully recover from it.
