Did most of you start with a cheaper or smaller kayak before settling on what you have. For myself I went through 3 kayaks before buying what I think will be my last for a long time. I have the trident 4.7 ultra 15.5" with rudder. What do you use or want...

After owning most (17 different kayaks) , and selling many (some after only 2-3 times on the water) I fell in love with the Wilderness systems boats. I still have 12 kayaks.... I'm waiting on my New Wildy thresher 155 to get here... It's a sickness. It's a hording problem... But at least it's not Motor boats anymore!!! Paddle them all till you fall in love with one...  :smt007
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Started with a Prowler 13.  Not many choices 10 years ago. And still use an Ocean Kayak.

My first ride was a Cobra Marauder that I bought for stability; unfortunately, no rudder which made it difficult to maintain course direction in moving water, and the width making for a slow ride.

Second ride was Trident 13 with rudder that was listed as the same weight as the Marauder but somehow was much easier for me to lift and handle. Sold it because even it was becoming more difficult for this old guy to lift.

Planning to get a Caribbean 14 which is considerably lighter. Probably will be my last ride.

Was a small inflatable Zodiac owner for years for in tight to shore fishing forays. I finally stepped up to a SOT and for the price (= $$$cheap), I got a used Cobra Fn'D. I like it! I'm Big and weigh in at 250# and also tall @ 6'2".

It's the boat for me Yahr! Have been studying the field and so far, nothing else really pulls my chain.

Got my first in 2003.
They last a long time. If taken care of.
One I have now is 7 years old. Keep it outa the sun and it's gonna last longer than I am no doubt. It's also very light at around 45lbs empty.
