I have a Penn Jigmaster 500, in good condition. It is backed with 200 yards of cheap monofilament then topped with 275 yards of green 25# power pro braid.

I just want a similar reel that is left handed. A Lefty Jigmaster is great but feel free to offer what you have and we will figure out a trade. I am in Dublin and travel to Santa Cruz / Carmel frequently.

Only reason I am getting rid of it is because I've discovered I'm a lefty with reels despite being right handed.

I bought one of these for my gal--true lefty--- and she cant seem to reel it..have you tried a top facing/conventional in left..they are a trip for sure..
anyways these are killer reels for $$$ super strong and smooth ..I have yet to lube either one I bought..no idea why-but they say they are self lubing?? they make a really nice #30 model too...the 20# is really light and cool and holds tons of line..

I was hoping to trade because I don't want to spend much money for a while. That looks like a kick ass deal though! I wi keep it in mind if nobody takes my trade.

you can try mine and if you like we can trade..she does not use it with any desire..and has multiple reels...i would be stealing the jigmaster  :smt005

try it the following weekend when we fish..it is laoded with maxima ultra green 25 for salmon and is sweeeeeet

try it first..you may not even want a left conventional..after about ten drops I forget it is left and focus on the sweet smooth gearing

Hey I'm a righty and prefer left handed reels too.  Guess it's because I started with spinning reels with left handles and just dont want to switch hands after casting.  Btw, do you have a spinning saltwater reel?  Good choice for lighter jigs/swimbaits  :smt002

Sure I'd be happy to try it. I've been trying to use my Jigmaster but I end up never using it because it's uncomfortable. I end up using my Shimano Curado 301E which is left handed and enjoy it so much more.

On the charter last weekend they only had righty reels. I was uncomfortable the whole time and could never get in a groove.

Al, I have never used a spinning reel in saltwater. To be honest I'm not really sure the advantage of spinning reels over bait asters now that I am used to that style.  Maybe for easier casting? What do you feel is better about spinning reels for light rigs?

Ryan the best thing about a spin reel in kayak is that fro light tackle it will free fall and not require feeding line out..the casting is fun too on light spin cast..the drag is that a big take down slams the reel onto thighs or the yak or water....also spin reels gum up quicker in a yak imo

has to do with the leverage of the arm that holds the rod it seems,i'm left spin/right conventional as are most folks imo

The spinning reel will drop faster for lighter lures, because it doesn't have to pull on the spool of the reel to drop. It's also really fun when a ling takes it on a light setup!

My other go-to-cheap-lefty reel is the Shimano Cardiff 401A (a=left).  But I know your not looking to buy, just an FYI.

I thought about getting a Cardiff long ago. It looks like a good one!

Makes sense about the  speed of descent on lighter tackle. I was wondering why the weight went down so slow on my baitcaster when it was 2oz, but i've dropped 1/8oz on a spinning and it went right down.

Definitely something to look into for the future. At the moment I want a backup rod/reel that can hold a lot of line. We'll see!

i'd be interested in a trade as well... i'm a lefty and having a RIGHT HANDED reel at 180ft pulling in a big Ling with 16oz sinker was a killer.

i agree with you on that. I am right handed and use left handed spinning reels. The odd part is a prefer right handed bait casters. Good luck with your trade. Penn makes nice gear.

Just a heads up, I'm still looking for a trade but my lack of truck for a few months is making it hard for me to accept any trades or look into them because I could only do it within a few miles of Dublin.

So if you're willing to meet me in Dublin CA for the trade, I'm interested and let me know what you have. Otherwise I'll look into this again once my truck is operational.
