Does anyone actually have a camping air mattress that they like and would recommend?

What does one look for when researching?

I usually keep it pretty minimalist when I roll solo, but now with my kids getting older I'll soon be back in tent camp mode. I used to just throw down a bunch of comforters for padding, but washing all those comforters afterwards is a pain in the ass, as well as a waste of water.

TIA!

so a large family size? keep in mind when one person moves you ALL move on a large one. I have a solo one (big agnes) and love it. pack small and is long enough for my 6'4" body but again its a one man pad

The kids will be on their own mattress.

I use a Big Agnes as well.  They aren't cheap though.  You might consider self-inflating instead of inflating since kids have a way of punching holes in things.

Things to look for;

I-beam construction to eliminate cold spots on seams
Brass valve, not plastic
Primaloft or other insulating material

Here is a warm weather pad;
http://www.amazon.com/Big-Air-Core-Rectangle-Pad/dp/B008PMDRUU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1415728277&sr=8-2&keywords=big+agnes+sleeping+pad

If you plan to camp in cool to cold weather, get something like this;
http://www.amazon.com/Big-Agnes-Insulated-Q-Core-Silver/dp/B005ETPY4Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1415728631&sr=8-3&keywords=big+agnes+sleeping+pad

But, what ever you decide on, read reviews and shop for best prices.  The worst thing you can do is take kids camping and have it be an uncomfortable experience right out of the chute.  Buy quality and it will last.  No fun having a mattress/pad fail during a trip.

Get a king size. Make sure it has the coils for vertical support/structural integrity (I think they're called coils). Double valves are good...less chance of deflating overnight. My wife likes the ones with plush top, but we usually bring a set of bed sheets too. The ones with a built-in pump are nice because they inflate quickly if you have a 120v outlet or a power-inverter for the cigarette lighter...and you won't accidentally forget the battery-operated pump or fresh batteries. We've gone through about 6 air mattresses in the last 10yrs (they all break/pop/leak at some point; so don't spend tooo much $ on it). But I have had good luck with the Intex brand and higher-end Coleman beds [60-80 bucks].
Our current camping routine is to fit a king size Intex and full size Coleman in our 6-man tent. My wife & I sleep on the king and the kids sleep on the full. You don't want the kids sharing an air mattress with you & the Mrs because they will wake up every time you get up to pee at night.

Not sure if Costco carries air mattresses or not but I think they offer a "no hassle" return on things so WHEN it does leak, exchange.  I too buy the midrange price point Coleman or = because they all tend to spring a leak after a while no matter how careful I am with it.

They all go flat, so buy from COSTCO.  I use self inflating base camp Thermarest.  My son finally saw the light and bought one after three of the big inflatables failed.

I have the REI Camp Bed 3.5 very comfy and tough  http://www.rei.com/product/870757/rei-camp-bed-35-self-inflating-sleeping-pad
when the wife comes we bring two of those fold up foam pads from Costco.
