Its really a shame that the ridge of high pressure is building and is going to keep it up north and then send it down into the plains. Its going to be a monster and is the kind of storm that could have dropped inches of rain and feet of snow in CA. Looks like the El Nino probability is dropping quickly and we're starting to see that dominant high pressure re-establish just as it did last winter. Scary to imagine the possibilityof back to back winters of record warmth and drought.

NWS Eureka says rain next week and long period swells from the storm brining sneaker wave potential. Says rain will remain north of Sonoma county though. Wish we could send some of our rain down to you all, it's been a good start to the rain year up here.

The idea that El Niño brings heavy rain only holds true for the strongest of El Niño years. In an "average" El Niño, we get average rainfall.

Sad situation we're in.

Exactly. Forecasts in the late spring were pointing to a good chance for a moderate El Nino which could have translated to atleast the return of average rainfall. Now that chance has been downgraded to 50/50 and with that persistent high returning to CA,  it looks like another below average winter for rainfall. Big time bummer.

Looks like we are going to be spared from this.  We could really have done with the snow pack though.
