I like bringing up my minnows.  In San Jose area there is Ly's (1051 East Capitol Expy....408-629-9644) and Fishery Supply (978 Story Rd...408-293-6593) .  You can get 2 to 3 times the size then what is up near Mendo.

If you want a big striper you need big healthy baits.  Last year they were a buck a piece.  Also, a pump is good for keeping them over night in a camping site.  Or, you leave a bait bucket in the lake.

You can also get them at Coyote Bait & Tackle. (8215 Monterey Rd...408-463-0711).  Never tried their minnows yet.

I hooked up with notuna and sailfish Friday afternoon in the middle of the lake. We scooted over to the "barn cove" area and trolled around for a little while until the striper decided to eat. It wasn't too long before sailfish hooked up small striper. It gave a good fight, but ended up a little too small to keep, so back into the abyss it went.

It wasn't long before we all started hooking up some nice striper. All total I think we landed 10 striper between us (not to include kickinbass, who went skunk). Notuna ended up with a nice 10# fatty. All in all it was a great evening fishing. No of the striper were caught on live bait, but my trusty old Kastmaster didn't let me down either.

Earlier in the day I hooked up with Sean and installed two rod holders on my Old Town Castaway kayak. It's been sitting out in the rain and weather for two years without use. The hull design is great for speed. It worked out well today, but there is literally no room for anything. I hope to see the photo's notuna and sailfish took.

CHEERS!
