Fished the river many times by kayak or from shore this summer/fall on my third steelhead card since June 20, caught several wild trout over 16", a lot of small wild trout, salmon, pike minnow, sucker fish even a bluegill on a fly and today finally a trout/steelhead that I could take home for dinner 19" hatchery fish, caught on cinnamon caddis fly.

Non-kayak, wading down at the barge hole, only boat I saw was the DFG and they just waved as they passed by, fishing is much better when it is quite. No other fishermen around allowed me to work the river as I wanted.

That's a beauty! Congratulations!
This is my favorite time of year in the valley, all the steelies coming home!

Clarity is good, most the sediment and mud from the last rain has washed out, still some vegetation floating by, had to clean the grass/weeds off after most casts. Whatever insect/fly just hatched there were a lot of them in the water today, the fly I was using was a close color.

Good deal.  We had the kids field trip to Coleman last Thursday and I was amazed at how filthy the water was coming down Battle Creek.  Apparently the Manton fire runoff really clouded things up with the last rain event.
