So here is a little something I have been working on.  My first attempt was made from cedar and I used a wood burner to burn in the ruler.  It works but I did not like the way it turned out and it is a little long and cumbersome in the boat.

Did you take the picture with the camera on your phone by chance ? Sometime I get an error because the phone occasionally saves it in a bogus format for some reason. Usually, if I do a quick edit on the picture and resave it, it loads perfectly.

So….. I made another one, this time out of red wood and I used a laser printer to etch the ruler in.  I also made it in two segments so it can fold up and store easier in my milk crate.  I used some strong magnets to hold it closed and open, all SS hardware so it will last.  I also added a few min fish lengths to the side because I can never remember when I’m out on the water.

That's a nice looking trough!

I go for a much more low-tech method. I just have little marks at 12", 15", 18", 20", 22", and 24" Sharpy'd on my rods. 20" and 24" on the stick I use for salmon. 12", 15", and 22" on my halibut/RF rod. And 18" in a rod I use for stripers (although I very rarely fish them). If it's too close to tell, they go back in the drink and I don't lose any sleep over it.

Wouldn't work for AOTY, but I'm not in that anyway.

Very Nice are you going to put a finish on it?

Can I get you to make me a compact one, 36 inches shrunk to 24 inches?  Would come in handy on catch and release tourneys.

We'll at least it floats!  I'll probably attach a eye bolt to it so I can secure it.  Thanks
