Hey Y'all, I just wanted to take a minute to share about my experience with  Lowrance customer service. Some of you have heard me talking about the issues I had with my Elite 5 DSI so I just wanted to publicly update you all. Last summer after I ordered my new kayak I also ordered my new FF/GPS. When the fish finder arrived I set it aside to wait for my new yak to arrive. Well as these things sometimes go when dealing internationally and with new product being imported I didn't get my kayak until march of this year. So while I was waiting for the RCG opener and GS8 I installed the FF/GPS. At GS8 I used it for the first time and had some issues the screen readings. I talked to Mike/Wingshooter about it he made a few suggestions of things to try and it seemed to help a bit but not completely. After more discussion he recommended that I replace the transducer and place it in the water rather than shooting through the hull. In June I did just that. It worked fine but while on the Islander trip it started randomly blowing fuses sometimes immediately sometimes after a few hours or minutes. Then at Albion it wouldn't start up at all. I talked to Mike again and we tried a different transducer, no difference.

Finally after vacation and an unexpected long term house guest (mom-in-law broke her hip while visiting) I got around to calling Lowrance warranty service and unfortunately found out that because of all the delay's I was out of warranty coverage. FUCK! what a bone head.

Luckily I thought to call Mike for help and he went to bat for me explaining to his manager that I had been trying to deal with the issue in good faith and had had some unusual delaying circumstances. In the end Lowrance came through and replaced my unit with an Elite 5 HDI.

I've now had the chance to use the new unit a few times and am happy to say that it has performed flawlessly, I love it! I love the bright screen images, the hybrid dual imaging and it's 3d like renderings. I love the almost endless screen view options and I totally love how the Navionics Gold chip works with this unit, it's way more useful than it was in my Humminbird.

So in the end I'm a very happy convert to Lowrance.

Thanks Mike/Wingshooter.
