Essentially, it was stolen from me, after I asked them for help...

Yeah, its kinda convoluted story here, but it's the truth.

My original dealer basically told me they couldn't do anything for me, so I let it sit in my garage for two years. When I went to buy my AI from CCK (no discount either hahaha) I mentioned that I have an issue with my original outback and needed it looked at.  Keith said he would take it in and look it over and verify if it's a warranty issue or what not.  I dropped it off the day I picked up my AI and went sailing!  I didn't hear from them for several months, and didn't hear back until I called them and asked what was up with it.

Keith called me back and said we recycled it, because they didn't think that I wanted it anymore, but that it was definitely a standard Hobie Drive-well Crack, and a bad one at that, and that Hobie wouldn't warranty it.  But never once did they call to tell me that it was out of warranty, or that I could come pick it up again (and possibly pay to have it fixed elsewhere).

That's when he offered me the box of junk and another broken outback, which he also never called back about.

It wasn't Keith's to toss.  There isn't an excuse for not contacting you about your property.  He owes you a replacement that meets your satisfaction to include making this right.  (meaning that what ever he gives you to replace this one should have you jumping up and down with joy)  If it were me, I'd tell him so in just those words.

Nope, it wasn't.  I would have gladly picked it back up and asked some other shop to give it a shot at repairing it.  But they didn't call to say that Hobie wouldn't warranty it or anything.  They just went ahead and recycled it, and the reason given was that Keith said he didn't think that I wanted it anymore.

So, how am I to believe him?  Did he even contact Hobie?  Or did he or one of his employees make a mistake and have it recycled by accident?  Who knows... He isn't talking, and I'm sure that multiple people have made him aware of the situation, including other people that I talked to about this before that offered to help, he wouldn't budge.

It would be nice if he would at least give me that box of junk and a replacement broken hull... But you don't anyone offering to make this right do you now?  Think about it...

Not cool at all!! :smt013 Completely forgot about this fiasco Al... Not good on CCK part for sure even if they have donated A kayak to NCKA. They should have called you to straighten things up or at the least give you the yak back. I HOPE THIS GETS RESOLVED!!! :smt009

:smt011 Wow!! Al that sucks!! You would think you would get a courtesy call from someone before they completely destroy your property.... That you left in their care.... There has to be something they can do.....even in the damaged state the yak is still worth $$$$.....

I would definitely be upset that they didn't even bother to call or notify that if you don't pick it up, we are going to recycle it.  :smt011. If you do decide to sell anything individually. I would be interested in the hard pavement wheeleze. Good luck Al. I am sure word is getting back to them. Terrible misunderstanding and assuming on there part.

Sounds like someone messed up and now they don't want to take responsibility.  I think they owe you a hull. They've always been cool down there so its a strange turn of events, but now they're icing you out?  Not good business in my point of view.  Communication is key, even if people dont like what you have to say, you still have to say it.   Sorry that happened to you Al, did you call Hobie about it?

If you have the S/N, I would think that Hobie would have documented any conversation or attemted warranty claim as some form of "proof" that there was an attempt?!?!

Isn't it like taking your car to a mechanic and they say they can't fix it. Send it to a dump, and give you the steering wheel and maybe the rims.....

BEEE-ZAR!

Then, why did he offer to help?

It is truly bizarre.  Now that they've bought Aquan in San Carlos (my local shop) I guess I'm stuck with them too.

Sorry to hear about your treatment Al.  You're handling it with great equanimity.

You're never "stuck" with a shop.  There are always options .... they just may require a little more driving.
