Drove by Capitola today (dropping my oldest off at school) and spent a few minutes on the bluff overlooking Capitola checking out the conditions...

Which were AWESOME.

It was lightly overcast at 9:00AM with glassy water.  Wind was zero and there was nobody out on the water but a single surfer (who is probably still out there waiting for his first wave).

Bait was crashing about 10 meters offshore and there were flocks of seabirds and a pod of dolphin just demolishing the bait.  I watched for 15 minutes or so and saw the bait being pounded by predators.  You can bet your butt there were a zillion big fish hitting the school, too.  All this was closer to shore than the buoys for parking boats (in the area usually designated for swimming).

Had a pedatrics appointment for my youngest (now 2 months old) and had to jet after that.  DAMN.  I was blown away by how productive it looked.

I might just have to put the yak on the car tomorrow.

All this flat water is too good to pass up.

thats odd, I usually arrive a day after the great fishing.  I fished captiola on sunday the 15th, so a day early!

The kid situation is making my fishing pretty limited.

I watch the oldest when she's not in school (9-3) and the youngest (2 mos old) has a respitory infection that requires freqent inhaling of nebulized medication so I'm even busy during the day at this point.  Their mother is taking classes at UC Extension and battling some medical stuff, too.  Oh, and our house is currently under construction as we redo the hardscape.

I *AM* building a perching kit with a couple of rods and reels and I'm pretty sure I'll get some time here in the next month or so.  My suspicion is that, at least for the next few months, any fishing I get will be quick bait-dunkings off of Capitola wharf.

Oh, and next year I start my masters degree.  *whoosh* is the sound of what little spare time I have disappearing.  :help:
