I have a Jackson Big Tuna and someone recently gave me a brand new Garmin 140 (not the best FF but free). After adding all of the stuff I would need to mount the FF, battery, wiring, etc., the total is about $110. I don't really have any of this stuff lying around.

I am curious about whether this install will be worth it for a FF that people seem to think is low quality.

Is there a kit or something like the Hummingbird 120 fishing buddy that would be better/easier?

Thanks!

I would look into if Ram makes a Garmin mount attachment. I would then get a rail from yakattack (boat may already have a rail system), rail/ball mount and arm. This way if you decide to change ff all you have to due is buy a new ram ff attachment and everything else stays. Plus it's a real clean install and re-moveable at any time.

2cents.

Free is free.  The battery you need no matter what FF you use so not a cost you can avoid.  The FF will give you basic functions and if you are okay with that then it's worth it.  If not buy the one you will be happy with and pay it forward and donate that one to someone who needs it but can't afford.

They do make mounts for the Garmin ff and transducer. That's a really good point that I could make it easy to change for another ff later. Thanks!

Super good point! Guess I'll just go through with the install and if the Garmin sucks I'll get another one later when I save up some money again.
