Mexican Peppers!

Saw a couple of pepper plants from a customer last year and I figured I'll give it a try of growing my own.  Asked for a couple of varieties to dry over last year winter and planted from seeds this year.  Here is the result.

I didn't have any luck with mine a few years back.  I'd like to give it a try again next year.

The first batch got up to about 6" inches then started losing leaves.  Only later did I figure out that slugs and snails have been feasting on them at night.   Got the slug pellets and was able to grow the second batch with no problem.

Did you know that peppers are actually perennials?  This means you can over-winter them.  I bring this up because you grew them in pots, meaning you can move them to a warmer winter area and keep them going until next season.  You'll have an even better harvest next year as the plant is already established.

Copper strips around the outside lips of the pots will keep them away. They get an unpleasant charge when their slime trails touch the strip.

Yup.  My customer had his on planters and on top of dollies and would roll them in the garage whenever there was frostbite danger.  He had fruits in April.

I have some that have naturally over wintered, without me doing anything.  For the pepper plants I have this year, I'm just going prune them back, add a big mound of mulch over them and see what happens next spring.
