We (North Tahoe Fire) received over 100 phone calls today regarding the King Fire and potential to reach the Tahoe Basin. This is our official press release as of  1800 hrs (6 pm) today Thurs 9/18.  We are hoping for less smoke this weekend as Ironman Lake Tahoe is Sunday. If any of you NCKA folks have specific questions or concerns  please  feel free to contact me.  For those folks in the fire area we hope you and your families are safe.   Keep positive thoughts for the Firefighters up there.  Wanted to put a NCKA sticker on our engine but the Chief frowned on that.

Any specifics on how the alleged arsonist started it?

Heard today that with the big blowout yesterday that the smoke had made it to Idaho.  Forecast is for East winds tonight and tomorrow morning so expecting smoke in the foothills and Valley tomorrow morning.  Then wind is forecast to swing back from west and blow smoke upslope for weekend.

Just the public release info. May want to keep your windows closed tomorrow as the winds change to more easterly flow, gotta protect your dark beer hideout :smt002.

Winds are already shifting and becoming more easterly here in Kings Beach,  smoke starting to clear a bit. Can finally see Safeway across the street from Stn 52.

This is a picture of the King fire I took on Wednesday 9/17/14 early in the day from 9400' elevation Thunder Mountain which is above Kirkwood Ski Resort and Silver Lake along highway 88.  On the hike back in the afternoon the smoke was much worse.

Jason the Ironman is still a GO. Weather is expected (not guaranteed) to clear up no snow/cold with little smoke in the Tahoe/Truckee area. You are crazier than BigJim but I will be be cheering you on Brother. If you are in the Kings Beach area today Fri, stop by the firehouse and say Hi. Will be working the event somewhere on the course untill Mon am.  As of today no GWS reported in the North Tahoe area :smt003. Be Fast Be Safe and stay out of my Fire Medic unit. :smt006

You are welcome anytime brother.
And FYI, I might have an IPA or 2 for those I don't like to share the good beer with.  :smt044 :smt044
But I'll share the good beer with you.
