I had to go early afternoon because of family commitments. Got there around 1500--all the pontoon boats and kayaks were beached. Wind was howling. Met a couple of old pals from SJ Fly Casters and we decided to brave the widns over by the islands. They were in float tubes so they could kick against the wind. One of them picked up three dinks. My kayak was flying at first: t was drifting 1.2 knots in the wind--with the anchor out that slowed to 0.7 knots. Ugh! Fly fishing was useless, so I cast a 1 oz Megabait for nada. By the time I left at 1730, unachored drift was up to 2.3 knots and I surfed in. Got blown over picking up  kayak up to load it on the car. Skipped the pot luck dinner in howling winds to go home and get the float tube--if it settles down tomorrow, may head over. Otherwise not. Front is coming in--Rain in North Bay Monday, so I expect unsettled weather tomorrow too. Offshore flow Wed-Fri. May just bag it until Friday or Sat next week.

One of the NCFFB members told me the wind started about 1130 so I was doomed from the beginning. He also said he saw a red kayak trolling around the rip-rap. I assume that was Zeelander. Looking forward to his report.

Just checked wind at 0515 this morning--wind at 13 mph. It's a No-Go for me today too unless it calms down for the afternoon/evening bite.
I went yesterday without checkignteh winds because there we people there I watned to hookup with anyway so I figured I see how the wind really was when I got there. the thing aboutthe Forebay is that you don't set a date in advance to fish it--when its ready--that's when you go. If you msut fish a certain day, then a Plan B is always a good idea if the news on the Wind Telephone Recroding is bad news.

That's why those off shore wind conditions are so important while the Central Valley is still heating up. Once Fall really sets in (no more 80-degree temps in the Central Valley but highs of 60) the offshore won't matter as much. But right now, when the Central Valley heats up to a 80 degree range or more, the wind howls over Pacheco Pass and roars down on the San Luis Reservoir and O'Neill Fore Bay. There is also the additive effect of a front moving in--the is chance of rain forecast for the North Bay Monday.
