Well said, Pisean. On a serious and somewhat unrelated note, I too miss Aaron. And his situation is part of the reason why the idea of 'guns for everybody' makes me feel uncomfortable. Statistics show that a significant percentage of our community suffer from emotional or mental instability. And I don't want to be anywhere near those people if they're armed.
But if you are near those people and they are armed, would you rather be armed or unnamed?

How come you always reply with a question?  :smt003

For me, personally, if we're talking about real life instead of ridiculous hypothetical situations...then I'd have to answer Unarmed. Because I do not own a firearm and I probably interact with emotionally or mentally unstable people on a daily basis. I have no doubt that I'm engaging in such an activity right now.

Btw I am not anti-firearm; I think they're necessary in many circumstances. I appreciate the craftsmanship, machinery, physics, historical significance, implied safety, and other reasons for owning them. So please don't label me as anti-gun or think I'm trying to push my personal values on anybody else.

I am sick and tired of anti gun folks pushing their ways on to others.
As a self-proclaimed neutral/objective party, I have to say that it seems (to me) the opposite here. The group of people "pushing their way onto others" appears to be the anti anti-gun group.

"Why do you want to protect me from myself?"

Because, for whatever reason, I care about the wellbeing of others.

If you truly care about the well beings of others, then stop down talking gun owners.  You do realize that more people die every year from hammers, drowning in pools, dying in car crashes then from a gun.

That is completely wrong. You need to check your source. According to FBI's crime in the U.S. for 2011, there were 12664 homicides, of which 8583 were killed by firearms, and 496 were killed by blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.). So even assuming all the people killed by blunt objects were killed with hammers, that is still 1/17th the amount of people killed by firearms.

What sort of Alice in Wonderland weirdness is it that makes the people wanting to prevent people from carrying guns "pushing their way onto others", when no one in this thread has ever called for someone who doesn't want to carry a gun to carry one regardless of those feelings?

and 3,961 accidental drownings in 2011.  Can we turn these into statistics that prove Andy Kaufman and Elvis are hanging together alive and well?

You lost me at Alice in Wonderland, chief.
I'm also confused about why everyone replying to this thread is so angry.

Alice lived in a world where nothing was as it seemed.  I'm not angry if I am the everyone you are referring to.

But if you are near those people and they are armed, would you rather be armed or unnamed?

Tough question. If you were there and were armed, would you be able to put Aaron down to protect his father life? I am not sure if being armed in that situation would have helped. RIP Aaron.

Sorry, I did not mean to ask a what if about Aaron's incident.  I don't want to go there.

My question was more about the general statement about not wanting to be around emotionally or mentally unstable gun toting people in general.

Why do you ask?   :smt002

Seriously though, my default discussion style is to ask questions and have people arrive at their own conclusions, rather than trying to tell them what those conclusions should be.

Well this has been fun. Between this thread and the Annies debacle I'm learning a lot about the folks who make up this motley crew...

This is the last time I'll be getting involved in any politically charged discussions on this site. No one likes a one-against-many debate, especially when the jokes start flying.

Hope you guys at least keep your boom sticks locked up properly when you aren't toting them around with you.

Stay safe...

Hey Alex,

You've only learned about some of the members that happened to comment.

I have friends from all circles and have found it best to not try to debate these issues with people I want to have friendships with.  One of my friends is as pro gun as they come.  Believes in absolutely no government regulations for firearms.  Another friend is from Holland and is as anti gun as they come.  I'll never convince either of them to come meet me in the middle.

For me NCKA is about sharing kayak fishing with other kayak fishermen.  I don't care if your boat is blue or red, let's go fishing!

I fully agree with this.  Don't judge the rest of NCKA based on what a few members have said on this thread, or any thread for that matter.  I'd think most choose not to take a stand on these type of discussions because well...the lynch mob mentality that we all have when a touchy subject arises.   :smt044

I will not comment on this topic, but I likes me some guns.   :smt003
