Hey guys, my rudder line gave out this weekend on the hobie. I'm looking for a replacement line, but hobie only sales the KIT which goes for 36+ dollars. I only need spectra line. Anyone know where i can pick up some line locally in the bay area, and what dimension it should be?

I found this online at Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Spectra%C2%AE-Braided-Cord-550lb-Speargun/dp/B005URJ644/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410284148&sr=8-1&keywords=spectra+line+100lb

but not sure if it would work. Any help appreciated. Thanks!-- keith

Did you talk to CCK? They have them by the roll in the shop. For the length I needed, only cost me a few bucks a couple years ago.

I don't think the speargun spectra is suitable. They're fairly stiff, plus they're thicker. This is the full replacement kit with the protective tubing if you're looking to replace the whole thing... http://www.austinkayak.com/products/3325/Hobie-Mirage-Rudder-UpDown-Line-Kit-Universal.html?utm_source=retarget&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Criteo/

yeah, I don't need the whole replacement kit since it's only the line that is frayed. I actually ordered the hobie spectra online. I'm probably going replace all my rudder lines when i get the new spectra in. Thanks for the helps guys.

Look for some good tips online for threading the line.
It's not fun.

REI sells spectra cord in bulk in the climbing department. They may have the proper diameter on hand

Should be able to get just the line from any Hobie dealer. I believe it takes 30' to redo all of them on one boat.

I ordered it from Hobie, didn't cost much and the dealer had it shipped to my door.  ACK I think had the same material, and I ordered it from them my Oubtack.  My Down rudder post is here: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=54510.0  Oh and get more than double what you need in case you need to replace the first one you screwed up  :smt003
