Those who donate will be fed excellent fresh food, and will get one free cold beer. 

Donation is optional though, so you can just come and hang out as well!

For those who haven't logged on to see how Jim is doing with his $1000 fundraiser goal ... he is currently at $375.  If you have the means to do so, every small donation to this worthy cause will be a great help to get Jim to his sponsorship goal of $1000.

Jim will be running in the 2014 Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco in loving memory of Connor Cockerham and Joel Lotilla, and in honor of Robin Tsuji.

I just got back from a "melanoma" checkup.  About a year ago I had a small melanoma removed from my ear, took some lobe with it but it actually looks better than the original. My case was early, and of minimal depth,  and I have no foreseeable problems, but they still want to see me every 6 months for a few years.

Anyhow, today I asked the dermatologist some questions and she gave me a good primer on melanoma.

What I got from the Doc's answers,

It almost always starts on the skin, but not always.

It metastasizes more readily than other cancers.  And if it's not on the skin,  it's pretty much undetectable until it starts to cause symptoms.

In her words it spreads to "just about anywhere in the body it wants to go"

Treatment options are few and at this point in time less effective than for many other cancers.


So back to the "get yourself checked" idea, if you have any dark spots on your skin that seem to be growing in size have them looked at.  Mine was probably only a 1/4"-3/8" in diameter but it was growing.

Being Pro-Active is the best option.  Good point!  I have a few 'questionable' spots that I should get a looksie over.

Was hoping to sneak down for this fun event, but  between the King Fire and Ironman cancelled my vac so I'm gonna miss this. .  You know my families history with Melanoma, and they salute and thank you for your time and effort  . Even though I won't be there "the checks in the mail"

   Looks like he's running at $450 of his $1000 goal.  Let's see if we can get him at least half-way today!!!
