Conducting a survey for an up-and-coming new rod company.  They are looking at making some 'kayak' rods.  Feel like sharing some thoughts & wishes???

Length?
Action?
Floating vs Non-Floating?

Saltwater or Freshwater?  Species?

I gave them some initial thoughts butthat was just my feelings.  I'd love to hear back from as many as possible to get a broad spectrum of the group.  Please indicate the species you would target with the "perfect rod".

Thanks!

Bill

7'3" medium heavy  xfast tip shorten rear grip, floats.fuji handle with fuji guides.baitcasting or spinning will cover most inshore and most freshwater fish.made from graphite composite blank to keep the weight down.this would be my all around rod if I was to only have one rod

Salt water;
6'6" MH (15-40lb) floating with a longer but section (for leverage under arm) and a med fast action.
Many argue about the longer but section, but I rarely fight Lings and salmon from my lap. A longer butt section allows for tucking under arm for more leverage.

This is all great feedback guys.  Much appreciated.  I talked with them for quite a bit about looking into floating rods since it seems like the ones/few that were available (Okuma) aren't out there anymore?

;0)

As for butt/handle length, I find that too long can sometimes be cumbersome in a kayak, possibly interchangeable for different situations river (casting/handling more) vs ocean (drifting/trolling, kept in rod holder).

This would keep my wife happier, less fishing equipment around.

Maybe work on an extendable butt section to fit different fishing styles ;0)

^I was going to write this :smt005

6.5ft fits diagonally in standard bed trucks. I have a 7' rod that I use all the time, but I hate having to stuff it in the truck bed. My 6.5'ft rods are so much neater to transport.
I like the longer butt as well, having used both.
For medium action I like a trigger under the reel.
a  tidy leash point would be nice, or floating rod.....I also like hook keepers above the foregrip.
