Just got a Matrix 17 because my 15 was reading 2 to 3ft sometimes.  I am glad to inform you that they will work in the same mount.
I probably the only one who has a 15.  But, I glad.  Now I have a spare unit.  By the way the 17 is a lot better than the 15.  Also, got a Garmin 60cx gps (going to give my son the E-trex) and the Roleez Big Wheels Kayak Cart coming.

No not X-mas.  Just a new job.  Just have to work weekends and that is why I fish during the week.  Have to work 12 hrs days.  3 days one week and then 4 days (down side).  But, get 4 days off and then 3 days off.  Saw 22 trucks in the parking lot at Half Moon Bay today.  Last week there were only 4.

I got the reg. rolleez with the reg. tires.  It works in most places.  But, places like Davenport....it doesn't.

As an FYI - per the Humminbird site, the Matrix 10-67, 3XX, 5XX and 7XX series all share the same mount.

But, are they interchangeable without changing out the wiring?  Matrix 15 & 17 are compatibly.

I've got my second 17- the first crapped out after being dunked one too many times-- so eyes open, they are not waterproof, nor even particularly water resistant. I'm putting a little plastic bag over mine now for all but bay launches.

Also- the little GPS unit is nice-- breadcrumb tracking, speed, distance, etc- helps loads finding reefs.

I've also got the PC connector- so if anyone wants to upgrade their software (or load GPS coords) let me know and i'll loan it out.

Hi, Steve - where did you get pc connection cable for garmin gps? I need to make a copy of gps coordinates. Thanks for the offering, but it is alittle too far to pick it up.

Couple of comments:

1) Newer Garmin units use standard mini USB cables. I have a 76CSx.
2) Should consider 76CSx or 76Cx over 60CSx or 60Cx for kayaking . the 76 models are the model meant for marine use. They have built in Marina Tide stations and show a plot of a 24-hr cycle and they float. Yes they are a built bulkier, but not more than worth it.

Kickfish - you'd have to look at the transducer page at Humminbird. It looks like most of them use the same transducer, but the 737 and Matrix 47 do not.

But the key thing is that if you do some research, you can put on a new head with no rigging changes needed.

Scott,

i just took at chance that the 17 would work with 15.  Somebody out there may be wondering the same thing.  A lot of companies will change the connections or wiring to stop you from using thye old models.

I could run cricles around you about LED and Lazers. But, what would that proof.

I only statement I tha that the Matix 15 & 17 will work on the same system.

THe Matrix and 5 series units all have the same wiring etc.  The main difference is the transducer itself.  Some have a dual beam, others are single.

There is also a quad-beam transducer for the Matrix series though its of dubious value for kayakers.

That is only on the 3d models and others with optional side looking deal.  The mount is still the same.  The only one I have installed use two transducers.
