Has anyone launched from Palm Beach state park beside the Pajaro Dunes development? It would seem to be a way to cover the Manressa to Capitola area without going into Santa Cruz proper. It is a bit of a stretch to get to Soquel Cove from Moss Landing and launching from Palm Beach would cut the distance considerably.

My objective is easier access to the areas off of Aptos Creek and the Pajaro River mouths.

I fish the area all the time but I'm surf perch fishing.  I always see kayakers launching but they are usually people at the condos.  Never seen anybody rigged up to Fish. I never understood why bc there is always a fleet of boats working the area and would seem to save quite the paddle.  Dragging the yak from the car to the beach is not that bad, a small dune and then about a 100 yes to the beach.  If u get there early enuff, free parking just outside the state park entrance.

A buddy suggested a launch there a few years ago when the WSB bite was hot around there.  I scouted it out the evening before and the surf didn't look too bad - I think it was probably in the fall when the wind settles down, because otherwise I would have wanted to check it out at about noon, when we hoped to do a landing with at least an extra 50 lbs of flesh aboard.
The next morning, well before first light, we showed up all set to go, tromped up over the dune and down to the water to check it out.  The surf seemed bigger than it had been the night before, but we couldn't really gauge it with just our flashlights, so we chose not to go out there, even though the power boat fleet was within fairly easy paddling distance, probably pulling "our" fish aboard.
I don't know whether the surf was actually bigger, or was just more intimidating because of the total darkness and isolation of the spot in the early morning.

Way too exposed with dumping waves to launch a fishing kayak... most of the time.
