Launched from Balls Ferry at 1030 this morning, stopped at first ripple below bridge, hooked up with very nice trout third cast, got him to within 10 feet, very shallow water, he rolled and hook came out. After that excitement to start the day, landed a 20" sucker fish and about a 12" squaw fish. Missed a few other bites.

I stopped in a few places that looked fishy, also fished out of the yak, some difficulty with learning the current and river, did see a lot of fish through my new polarized sunglasses, they worked great seeing the fish but didn't help me to catch them. As the day got warmer could see the fish sitting in deep water near structure but they weren't biting. I marked the holes though and will be prepared next time. Head out earlier in the morning or late afternoon.

Where Cottonwood Creek comes in there was a school of at least two dozen smallmouth bass, creek is so low they pushed out into the sac river. I did get a couple to poke at a blue/silver kastmaster but they weren't hitting hard in the middle of the afternoon.

All in all a great day on the water, everybody was fishing down at the barge hole so not much boat traffic other then a couple speeding by, off the water at Steelhead landing about 3:00 pm.

Will try to go again next Tuesday if anyone wants to join me, probably float down through the barge hole, see what combat fishing is really like.
