She recently went kayaking with a friend of hers and was told not to bring one of our kayaks. Which we have 2 ai ride 135's.  When she came home from her day trip she said the gal had 2 hobies and how wonderful it was to ride in and be hands free as well.
So by Xmas I plan on getting her one, just not sure which will fit. Here is some of her background. She loves to fish, ab dives, scuba dives and used to sail and would like to again. I have heard some of you have sails for these things too??  Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks JB. And no it's not for me using her as an excuse. She goes more than I do anyways

Lucky you.  Wish I could purchase a kayak in the name of my wife.  :smt003

I'd start by finding out what model, or models, of Hobies her friend has.

If she's not into chasing Salmon or WSB, the Hobie Sport or Outback should be fine for all the activities you mentioned.

think pink!

Hey, this is a family site!!!  :smt044  :smt002

In all seriousness, not sure that Hobie makes anything in pink.

Hobie Sport or Hobie Revolution 11.

I don't own a hobie but I was thinking the same thing.

Hobie Sport.  Nice and stable, lots of storage, can be paddled, peddled, or sailed.

A bit hard getting into the revo after diving so may be better to get a sport or even outback. Way more stable and new models just came out with cool seat

Its the perfect diving platform, sails like a dream, it will do everything you want in a boat.  I have the tandem, and during crab season I look like a commercial fishing kayak.

I would least like to get back into a Hobie Outback or sport after a dive. There is also more effort to pedal with a wetsuit on and this is where a more efficient/faster boat is a blessing. I dove from Scramblers and disliked them intensely. Bought a Necky Spike with a rudder and it was a night and day difference. It was also designed to hold a scuba tank which the fishing boats really are not with their square edges and vertical sides that are designed for holding a crate.

My wife and I drove to California Canoe and Kayak in Oakland at Jack London Square and took both the Outback and the Revo 13 out into the harbor and it was a day with 10 MPH wind and a lot of chop. We tried them with the standard fins and the turbo fins. Both of us much preferred the Revo 13 with the turbo fins.

We bought two Revo 13's with the turbo fins, the larger sailing rudder, and the Hobie sail and furling kits. The Revo 13 is the most easily managed of the Hobie's that I would want to sail in terms of its weight and length. The new model also has the new Hobie setup for easily mounting a fish finder under the hull and with a protective shield and all with no drilling needed.

The 2015 Outback has a new seat and is supposed to also have a redesigned hull which may be better than the 2014 I tried. It would be worthwhile to locate a 2015 Outback and demo it as well as the Revo 13.

For a large person the Outback has a wider seating area so this can also be a factor in its favor. Regardless you need to try before you buy even if it is less of a surprise. She can also pick the color she wants this way as well.
