lightning and thunder in Auburn!!!!!!

Same up here in Chico, but no rain.  Lightning without rain = FIRES!  And we can't afford to have those.

It's been rumbling here in Rescue.

Take care.  It was that way when we were camping in Tahoe a couple of weeks ago and also this weekend in Reno.  Sunny and then all of a sudden the lightning and thunder followed by the cats and dogs.

I thought I saw lightening in the foothills this morning!!

Our office/lab in Placerville has lost power and phones due to a lightning strike.

We lost power too at the PO in Placerville.
Had a big rain and hail dump for about 5 minutes.

Watching this post makes me think of all those remarks California natives give when they hear of a small earthquake in the midwest.  Just a little thunder and rain and all you starting crying the "The Sky is falling!" , go back east if you want to feel what a real storm feels like!

It's more of a rhetorical rejoicing.

Not nearly as many people killed by lightning in California as compared to hot spots like Florida, New York, Michigan, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Tennessee, there are still deaths in the state every year of people who did not have the sense to get indoors during a thunderstorm.

All the deaths in the USA involved people not inside a building or a vehicle. Even the ones hit while boating or fishing were usually hit while they were under a tree or awning near the water or on a beach or boat dock. They mistakenly assumed that getting off the water was enough. They needed to go inside a building or get into their car and wait out the storm.

What is surprising is that in places like Florida where 1523 people were struck and killed by lightning over a 35 year period that nothing has been done to educate the public about the importance of getting inside during a storm. Time to stop fishing or the round of golf or the soccer match and call it a day. 

Earthquakes do a lot of damage but seldom result in fatalities with the tougher building standards that exist in California and they are not occurring at 25 million times a year as with lightning strikes in the USA. Specific areas where there are strong earthquakes it is happening at intervals of more than 60 years between events.

Apparently the storms made it to the northern Nevada desert. I loaned my enclosed car trailer to a friend and on his way back he got caught in a hail storm. The vent on the roof was destroyed by the hail and the front of the trailer is dented some. Oh well.

Damn , I guess Chicken Little was correct in saying the "Sky is falling!"  hope it wasn't too bad you can't fix.

I can fix it real easily.
