Need to talk to someone that can dive and has a light.  I dropped my cel phone in a lake at about 24' deep and would like to try and get it back.  It is in a waterproof container.  If you are in the Napa area and wouldn't mind helping out a NCKA brother and make a couple of bucks at the same time, let me know.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Crap man. Good luck. Hope you marked the area really well as searching in a muddy area can really start to suck after a few minutes. If you weren't so far I would offer. BTW, probably best for someone to be on scuba for this

What specific lake? How big is the search area?

Very small search area, I know exactly where it is.  The tough part is that the lake is a no touch the water lake even though they plant fish and you can use boats.  So it needs to be a covert operation.  It is Lake Hennessey.

Ohhhh... that does sound risky. Any idea what the fine is...?

Scuba for sure, I use to scuba dive for years down in Southern California but finally sold all my equipment a while ago.

According to what their $1 a day fishing permit says, they will ban you from using the lake for the rest of the year and take away that days fishing permit for there.

Someone wearing a wetsuit and scuba gear will stick out like a sore thumb at a no touch lake. Good luck with your covert op.

Using my Trident 13 I could easily place the tank in the center pod to "conceal" it.  As for the wet suit, you just wear a shirt over the wet suit.  No one would bat an eye at you.  There are no employee's anywhere near the launch ramp.  It is an honor system to pay for parking.  The only buildings that might have people are on the far side of the lake.

Trust me, I checked out the place to see if it could be done and I believe it could be.

Why not rent and dive yourself.....makes more sense than asking someone else to do all the dirty work.

Is the fine for entering the water there more or way less than the cost of a new camera? And phone?

Sketchy bro.... I'd drag a weighed treble there and hope for the best.

Because I haven't been able to find my dive card in many years and it is not on record either.  I got my cert back in 84.

The only fine I can find is that you are banned from the lake for the rest of the year and lose your day fishing permit.

Why not freedive? How cold is the water? If the search area is as small as you say and the water is only 24 feet, it seems to me that a proficient freediver could do this with a lot less gear and draw a lot less notice. I know there are plenty of good freedivers in the Sac and Napa areas. Check out NorCal Underwater Hunters. Another advantage of getting a spearo to do it is that if they lose lack access, they're less likely to care than an NCKA guy who might use the lake regularly.

Mask, suit, belt, fins. Paddle out on a tandem yak, one guy slips in the water, other guy pretends to fish and provides cover to hide behind each time the diver surfaces. Go down, get the phone, get out. What's the vis like? I'm not in the area, but this sounds kinda fun.
