I like anything that has red in it. Red Calico Hunter, Hot Karl, Redrum, & Senorita. I also like toast.

We caught them on various colors.  Most popular are: Pumpkin, Halloween, Pearl, Motor Oil...

I like a 6" in pearl white or bay smelt. These colors work for anything from rockfish to lings to cabezon to halibut.

If you get into some smaller schooling rockfish, try a 5" in those same colors.

I fish a lot with the Sledgehammers, which are 9 inches, I think.  They work really good for Lings and Reds.  Halloween is a good one.

Not a bighammer and not really a traditional Swimbait but we have been killing the lings on the 9 and 12 inch versions......

Smaller ones work also and work for the rock cods too.

anyone know of any good online links for the shad head shaped red with reflector type eyes in 2.0 oz...I can only find online up to 1 oz or maybe 1-3/4 oz...
Thanks

three days in a row with ten lings average and two huge ones over the three days....all on hammers...no bait anymore for me this season so far

Triangle,
Check out andy1976.  He got some great jig heads.  I recently got my order from him and he has good stuff.  Best I've seen.

And I keep telling people that when u are fishing past about 75 ft, color of lead head doesn't really matter.  Eyes either.

I almost always use plain jig heads.

831tackle also sells lead jig heads but they are plain.

Jason,
Depends on lots of factors, depth u are fishing, current, wind and type of fishing line.  I use almost exclusively 40-50 pd braid,  with a 2 foot 40-60 pd mono leader. The mono helps swinging the fish aboard when the gaff isn't available bc of multiple hookups (nice problem to have), chaffing on the bottom and break offs at the boat.  The braid and heavy mono help to get unsnagged from the bottom.  If I can't whip it free ( as skunkasauraus learned bc he was stuck all the time) I will sometimes actually straighten the hook, pulling it free.  Im a cheap sob and would rather get some gear back then lose everything.

I try to use as light as a jig head as possible.  Since I am usually fishing in about 100-185 ft of water, i usually use 4 ounce heads.  Depending on conditions, mainly drift speed, I will sometimes use 2-6 ounce jig heads.

Hope this helps.
