How do you rig your gaff? I got my first gaff and I'm afraid it's going to end up in the drink. A leash doesn't seem practical and I don't think it floats. What do you do to keep from losing your gaff?

Ken, it sounds like you'll have to pool noodle that sucker if it doesn't float in your bathtub.

Build your own out of bamboo. I have one over ten years old.  It floats too.

Most gaffs float. Go to a swimming pool and test it.

I attached a short length of pool noodle to my gaff, threw it in some shallow water to see if it floated, and called it good.
Last year's Albion Open it slipped out of my rear well on my paddle in, I was bummed. Next day, a guy came through camp asking if anyone had lost their gaff. It was mine! I forgot who it was who returned it, but it made my day.
Thanks again.

I made mine from a broom handle, I think it will float, but haven't tested it yet.

I put mine in the tub with a few inches of water and the hook end stayed on the bottom but the handle was floating. I won't know if it floats until I put it in deeper water. I wonder if I can fill the handle with foam.
