Most people I know don;t go to a place like Dicks, S.A., Wal-Mart, etc. for "fishing knowledge"  Most they may know is where in the store the fishing department is located.

Most people you know don't live in towns like ours.  There's very few fishing stores in the bay area, and many of them have grumpy people manning the counters.

I like the tackle selection at Dicks along with the reasonable prices.  It just isn't my "go-to" place if I have fishing related questions like "what lure is good for" or "what is the difference in this reel vs that reel".  The extent of the "fishing knowlege" I have found at a S.A. or Dicks is "what aisle is your lead weights on".  There are stores that sell fishing tackle & then there are stores with fishing knowlege.  With the knowlege generally comes higher prices and these stores are becoming less & less.

Since I'm back in my hometown Fremont for the holidays I ran into dicks with low expectations and to my surprise they have a descent selection. Maybe I haven't looked too hard but I haven't been able to find a local place since the tackle store closed in Oakland. I didn't see any jig heads >3oz and no big hammers in the 6 inch range but the diamond jigs made up for that in a way. If I lived here full time id definitely be a regular at ranch 99.

I've dropped quite a few dollars there since they opened in late Nov. 2014.  :smt003

Exactly. I bet that when Bass Pro Shop opens, it'll drive some of those grumpuses out of business.
