I really love seeing all the pics on here lately so I  decided to share Friday's catch with the forum...I've slowed down posting fishing pics like I did my first season of a post a day  :smt003 :smt003 :smt003...
We went off the Monterey side of the bay early Friday and I took my Gal Amy out with me.
I  spent a decent amount of time rigging for two and untangling for two  :smt008 :smt008 and paddling back and forth to her as she got tangled or wrapped around herself.
Amy  picked up her first ling of the year on a  barbless hoochie that she was trolling behind a flasher and 8 0z banana for Salmon.
This was the first fish of the day and in the early fog -very fun to see her get a hook up right way.
We switched to swim baits with a top shot -second- small plastic above about  foot or so..(all the blues were on the top smaller lures) after switching over to swim baits, she got a few more lings including one which she thought was a snag and turned out to be a decent size 30+" blue ling...a real beauty and her personal best...we ended the day with 4-5 lings landed ea. -- kept two each as well as getting 6 nice little fatty blues but ,by then  the wind and swell and multiple direction white caps sent us packing ,even in our fish-n dives we took note and packed it up....
We have been gifting heads and collars and bodies to her co-workers who make traditional soups with them-and recently I've started making fish tacos with a ling body after the fillet's come off...anyways here are the fish from Friday...she did great and was catching and landing and gaffing and knocking out her own fish...
long ways from her first outings where she hooked her thumb and we had to go to the hospital right away  :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

She has been out with me about 20 times and it is more work for me and my throat is sore from yelling... :smt005...but the next day all is well again...her co-workers see the pictures from otw, with whales or dolphins or stories of big swell.... and think she is crazy, which she gets a kick out of,some of them-guys- fish from boats and ask her if she is scared...she tells em...hell yes I am.....they wont come out when she invites them...say they are scared to kayak in open ocean... :smt005

It sounds good in theory.  As long as she can take care of her own rigging, baiting and fish hoisting.  My wife grew up on the ocean, but refuses to go out with me.  She tried snorkeling once and almost drowned me.  She loves horses and I don't. I went for a ride on the beach once and won't do that again.  After that I just accept she is not a fisherman and I am no cowboy.

Oh yeah,  great fish spread....looks good

well I feel a bit better now...I can be kind of hard on her for simple stuff sometimes...she does not know how totie her own knots-which I show her the same knot each time i tie for her-no one showed me more than once or twice- is how I feel once in a while and can let slip a angry response..when I'm fighting to get her to grab the tip of my paddle so i can transfer rods yak to yak and re-tie or rig for her...and she is not even watching...but for the most part she does well and really I need to ,at this point, stay farther away and let her figure stuff out!!!

I have learned last week finally , that a simple one lure set up on an open face reel on a medium stiff shorter tiger stick-with the barb removed  might be the set up for her to have the most fun and me to be able to stop watching her all the time...this is now the plan....set the drag just loose a tad for her and let her reel in her fish  by herself without coaching...anything I say when she is hooked up...gets her screaming at me  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005...and just let the fish take some drag here and there..rather than tell her to touch the drag...or give her a penn 500 set up for trolling to have on the yak too...it's too much for her...and then have back lash...or a treble hook lazer jig ...her thumb lure...pics later when I get home

we had a whale come up feet from me, and maybe 60 feet from her and go down never to be seen again...for her to be out in 180 f.o.w 1/2 mile off  point pinos...and wonder where it would come up again...or to see her fighting a ling from 200 feet away and then  see her land and dispatch it and cast out again....these moments are worth the little spats or tangles or lost gear...as long as she puts up with me and still wants to go...she goes

here is the pic someone asked for ....she does not want to use laser jigs with treble hooks anymore
last season on her first ever landed kayak ling...I could hear her screaming"get over here!!!"...the ling went nuts as she tried to un hook it on the kayak deck and twisted /hooking her.....we had to /I had to- take my pliers and cut the hook's shank free so we could paddle in...we had just gotten otw and had to go home......I need to switch some stuff around to single barbless for her this week...make her own tackle box etc...these pics are in the waiting room -her uncle is a doctor and "hooked her up"...so to speak... :smt003
