Ocean Kayak trident 13 is a very versatile boat that crosses over to all kinds of water.

In general I would suggest a yak in the 13-16ft range. Smaller than 13 feet and you are going to lose a lot of tracking and ocean handling ability.
I don't personally use a rudder, but some folks do and really like them for following seas.

I kind of shy away from "angler" specific boats, as most of that is just marketing. I would rather get a kayak that appeals to the paddler in me, then modify it with rod holders etc.

Test paddle a number of boats, and you'll know what works for you.

The Trident 13 is one of the easiest to setup for fishing with the Ocean Kayak mod pod that works with Scotty and Cannon rod holders with nothing to drill or screw. The OK boats with the transponder scupper are also relatively easy to modify for a fish finder.

Weight is something to think about as well. The Trident 11 has a hull weight of 56 lbs., the Trident 13 weighs 67 lbs., and the 15 ft plus long Trident  4.7 Ultra has a bare hull weight of 80 lbs. and that is before you have added anything to these boats. Lots of places to launch off the beach if you are able to carry the boat to it and sometimes that means going down steep trails. Not something I would want to do with a 80# boat.

I am also a big fan of rudders for ocean fishing. It allows me to paddle on both sides equally even with a strong crosswind blowing and it seems like this is a constant during the summer months.

There is also a lot to be said for the pedal boats as you can be around the kelp beds and fishing 100% of the time which is not possible with a paddle boat in the same situation. The Hobies cost more and can weigh more but they enable one to spend a lot more time actually fishing while out on the ocean.

The people at Kayak Connection have a rudimentary kayak fishing class and they provide the boat and the rod and reel and some tackle. Good way to get your feet wet so to speak.
