Had a guy ask me about these at work here as he was looking into it.

I have no clue.  Anybody tried the rentals at Santa Cruz or Capitola?  Feedback?  Which spot is better?  From what I see online they each have different "boudaries".

Thanks

I've rented from Capitola plenty of times. Ton of fun and plenty of reefs to hit up.

Ask Ed at the shop for advice on what's biting and where.

Make sure to put in a reservation a week in advance, especially for weekends/holidays!

I take my GF out on those skiffs out of Santa Cruz a few times a season. We always have a great time and catch a few fish.

It's a little tricky with no fish finder, but no biggy.

I'm actually pondering buying a second Lowrance transducer and a transom mount. This would come in handy any time I rent a boat; Santa Cruz, San Pab Res, Twin Lakes, etc, etc.

They limit you to a 3 mile radius of the launch, so you can JUST reach natural bridges  from Santa Cruz.

Call WAY in advance and secure your spot. There's no charge for cancellation as long as you call by the evening before your reservation.

I saw a couple of SC skiffs out in front of Natural Bridges on sunday and I wouldn't be surprised if they were outside the boundaries.

Last time I was there, boathouse guy said we could fish natural bridges. I think they are well aware that people push the boundary in that area, and they don't seem interested in making a stink about it.

Got a bunch of shorties on Sunday. It was hot mon/tues but slowed way down the past couple of days. I heard the lady from bayside on the radio heading in w/limits today, but it was slow for the entire fleet and most would feel fortunate with just one.

I use Capitola for my ocean fishing runs. If you know where to go, you'll catch plenty of rockfish and lingcod - key is finding the reefs. Ed, the guy that helps me out at Capitola is great help and he'll set you guys up.

Here's a video from my last fishing run there:

What I always hear is Santa Cruz has bigger & more fish, Capitola has the nicest people working the shop.

Only gone out from Capitola myself, but everyone there is awesome.  Definitely need to know where the reefs are though.  Seems like if you drift even 20' off a spot you were hooking up, you'll go without bites.
Try getting bait (anchovies, smelt, kingfish) and heading out to Boomer's Reef.
