I drag the fish until I hear the breathing of a furbag.  Of course, the other time I bring them in is when my yak becomes unresponsive because the fish are acting as a rudder and you can't turn.  When you are scampering from place to place, you should bring them in also as they really slow you down and get caught caught in the kelp.
