Can anyone tell me if there is a gate at the capell cove launch ramp on Berryessa? I'd like to get an early start so I'd like to know the earliest I can get in the parking lot to get ready. Thanks

Yes I am. I went last weekend and caught two after a late start waiting around for my son.  I want to be fishing near skiers cove by sunrise. I found a Berryessa News that seems recent that says the ramp is open 4:00 am to 10:00 PM. I hope to be otw by 4:30 or so. I hope I can catch something big enough to count for kayak wars. After the bite dies I'm gonna do a little trolling before the wind comes up.

Cool. I'm no expert, but if I were going to fish berry I'd go up putah creek and get away from the clear water. Last time I was there (mid May) I caught my fish on light line, near rock piles using a small gulp minnow on a dart head. I also was able to get some on a 4" Roboworm. The water was super clear and the fish were spooky, so I had to back way off the rock piles and cast far to them. Good luck, take lots of  pictures and report back!

Only one picture, only one fish. I got to the fishing spot and had my first fish within ten minutes. Nothing else the rest of the day. I did get in some more down rigger practice though. There is a sign that says the hours are 4:00 am to 10:00 PM. There is a gate, but I got there at 3:45 and the gate was open.

I was wondering how you did. What were the details? What were you using? How deep was the fish? What were the water conditions like?

It was funny because last week I got the late start and only caught two fish. I wanted to go back and get started on time so I could really work that spot and I only catch one this time. I was using that white walking stick type top water lure. The wind was blowing a bit so the water was not flat. It was top water action so I am not sure about their depth. Later in the morning the wind died down. Then around 11:00 it started to blow harder. I had already started back for the ramp because the skiers were out in force. I was glad I was most of the way back when the wind kicked up because it was blowing right in my face as I paddled. I was glad to get the practice with the down rigger. If I'm ever going to troll for salmon in the ocean, I'm going to have to get a lot better with it first. When the lake fills up again I got some good spots in mind to fish when it's under water again. My mom and dad used to fish a lot and are too old now so I took them the bass. On the way back to the ramp I checked out Capell cove and tried to fish some submerged timber but the wind was blowing me too fast so I gave up and called it a day. In fact I'd call it a good day.

Right on. I hate the wind. I need to start taking more pictures of all the newly exposed terrain with the low lake levels. They're going to come in handy one day when we get some rain.

Every time I go up there I try to memorize the terrain for when it's covered with water again..
The sad thing is that some of the best places haven' been covered up again
