Same as any other wild game in Cali you can't sell or barter with it you can only gift it to someone

So the road to and from my house is litered with dead ones. Does this mean they can't be used because they were not tagged? The pheasant club operates under different rules I believe, and seasons and such don't apply as it's all private.

They can be used if you find them dead on the ground.

In that case if anyone really wants them I can't start saving whatever feathers you use.

Some of the longer feathers on ring necks can make decent spey hackle substitutes. I tie this pattern for early morning sunlight for norcal summer steel, I put it on after something darker in gray light.

As long as we're on the topic of tying materials, I work for a textile company & we sometimes throw out sample yarns (threads) from the mills. Mostly synthetic but some cotton & wools -- all fairly random stuff. I'll post pics next time I run across some; if you have anything specific you're looking for, let me know.

Off topic question. Is tying flies way cheaper than buying, or is it like that whole lead thing? Some of those things are like $3-5$ a pop. Can't see what would cost, just a tiny hook yea?
