Been wanting to check out this one spot for halibut for awhile now so took off after work and cruised down.

Excellent viz and promising looking sand patches around reefs but I couldn't find any of the flat boogers.

After an hour or so of staring at sand the temptation of the nice structure bordering the sand was too much for me to resist so I started checking it out.  :smt003

Was hoping to find a big Ling since this area doesn't get a lot of pressure, but only found small snakey ones and let them be.

Did find a nice 23+ inch cabbie though!  :smt003

Totally spawned out and empty belly so pretty skinny looking but still a nice fish.  :smt001

Despite not finding the target species, glad I got out there to check out the spot and will be back to look there again soon!

Here's a mini-vid and few pics.

Sincerely,

Jim

:smt005this happens to me on almost every time I target halibut! I've lost count on how many times I wrote "tried for halibut, but after two hours switched to rockfish" in my journal.

BUT, ya can't get 'em unless you are trying right? Keep diving the good dive Jim.
